Join us online for the annual Faculty Technology Institute to reflect, share experiences, and learn from one another as we wrap up an unprecedented semester of online teaching, get ready to kick off our summer session online, and wonder what the fall semester might look like.
  • Registration is required for the 2020 Faculty Technology Institute
  • Visit the Sched Support Center for assistance using Sched to plan your week.
  • In our pivot to online teaching this spring did you discover a cool app or teaching trick? Is there an article, blog, or podcast you’ve found useful as you think about online teaching? We’re collecting your suggestions, tips, and tricks to share with participants after the FTI!
  • Do you want to continue or start a conversation with your colleagues on a particular topic? Suggest a lunch topic for a BoF style gathering at lunch in one of our Zoom Breakoutrooms.
Since we are meeting virtually, please contact edtech@lclark.edu or send us a Google Chat if you have questions or technical difficulties accessing the Zoom session.

Captioning and providing a transcript for instructional videos and audio recordings for your online content is an excellent best practice to follow and provides benefits to all students. Machine learning is rapidly transforming and improving automatic speech to text accuracy which is leading to a very dynamic environment for free or low-cost options for adding captions and transcripts to online media content.

In this session we'll go over how to use Zoom and Youtube machine captioning services to create caption files, how to download and edit, and how to add saved caption files to videos you share in Google Drive. Just need a transcript? Mac OS, Windows, and Google all have free speech to text capabilities for dictating transcripts. Please bring your questions and own tips to share.
